Developers who are dedicating their time to Apple’s operating iOS have something to be happy about. While Android OS has a larger installed user base, iOS continues to dominate when it comes to monetization and generates five times higher revenue for developers.
The data was compiled by Business Insider using various sources including App Annie, Flurry and several other firms. According to the data, iOS developer generates $1 per download compared to $0.19 earned by their counterpart Android developers. On the other hand, the gap for in-app purchases is a little narrower in with Android bringing $0.43 for every $1.00 on iOS.
Last month, a report from a Facebook firm Nanigans mentioned that an ad running on iOS posted returns 1800 percent higher than the same ad posted on Android. Interestingly, advertisers who choose Android for advertising netted a negative return on their investment, with a 10 percent loss.
“Audiences cost more on iPhone, and the reason is that it’s worth it,” Nanigans SVP Dan Slagen said at the time. “Typically, we’re not looking to acquire one-time customers, we’re looking to invest over time…so we pay more up front for better long-term results.”
Additionally, the analytic firm Flurry also noted that an iPhone users spend an average of 19 cents per download while Android users only spend 6 cents per download.
